Earlier this year the Oasis building achieved “Listed” status.  For us the “Listing marks and celebrates a building’s special architectural and historic interest,” (British Listed Buildings website).

Possibly originally built as a house in around the C15, later a shop with accommodation above and it was extended to the back in the C17 and C18.  It was also re-fronted and partially rebuilt in the C18.

As can be seen by the plaque outside, the first Mayor was given this building as his own home.

Often we don’t notice what is around us. Next time you’re in Oasis just pause, and appreciate the hundreds of people that have been here before us.
